This is being called: “Mobilegeddon”. Are you ready?

Beginning the 21 April 2015, Google will roll out a new algorithm that will show only mobile-friendly sites in the search results (on mobile devices)

Google explains their reasoning for this algorithm change in this blog post: Finding more mobile-friendly search results. If you have a Google Webmaster account, you can also check out your Mobile Usability Report here.

Why the Change to Google Responsive Algorithm?

The change is being done for two reasons.  First, to have more mobile-friendly websites in search results, and second, to have more relevant app content in search results…

Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.

This makes perfect sense as the number of people using mobile devices to surf the web is now past the “tipping point” over desktop users as can be seen in this report from comScore shows.

For the last several years, all the website’s I’ve designed are mobile friendly designs.  This means the full webpage you will see on a desktop monitor will collapse and realign the sections when viewed on smaller device screens.  As the responsiveness is built in from the beginning, your visitors will have little problem viewing the website I create for you… no matter what device they use.

Bottom line:  Mobile is here to stay.  If your website is not mobile friendly, you can contact me for a free consultation on how I can bring your website into compliance with the new Google Responsive Algorithm.
