I relied on predominately CSS styles.  The gradient background from a yellow-green fading into a dark teal gives the site a bright and inviting feel.

The slider is a jQuery text slider with fading image background.  The important point is the text is readable by bots, which is not possible when you use an image-based slider.

Bright accents and a bold off-white main menu complete the look.
