Surrey House Music

The original SurreyHouseMusic.com website was a single page, the purpose of which was to sell physical CDs and to link to Amazon.com and iTunes.com where more beautiful music could be downloaded.  The concept for the current website was to make a one-stop-shop for all the music offered by Surrey House Music and to update the look for modern devices.

Surrey House Music is the music label created by Marlin Taylor, considered the “father of beautiful music”, to showcase the best of the best from the golden age of the beautiful music movement.

In 1963, Marlin Taylor created a custom-designed beautiful music format at Philadelphia‘s WDVR. Within four months, WDVR became the #1 rated FM station in the Philadelphia market. This was one of the first big successes in FM broadcasting, and was instrumental in establishing the viability of FM. WDVR was a resource for mature listeners who were driven from AM radio at the time when WFIL and WIBG (and others) switched to rock ‘n’ roll programming. WDVR’s billboards made the adult audience aware of the new station.

The home page is a one-page design featuring a responsive hero slider which employs the Ken Burns image technique.  Movement on the page is created with images that slide in as you scroll down the page.  Each of the two CDs have their own sections which include an audio playlist sampler and a Buy Now button.  The Christmas CD section employs a pure CSS snowfall technique.

The site uses a WooCommerce shopping cart integrated with both PayPal and a credit card processor.

Between the two CD sections is a separator space with a music quote.   This is on a rotater with a new quote showing on each page load.

The digital download section of the home page offers a search bar as well as a list of the artist/conductors.

Each digital album is actually a WordPress custom post type that has custom fields for the Amazon Affiliate links, the Amazon reviews, and the iTunes widgets.  The iTune widget allows the visitor to hear clips of each song on the album prior to purchasing.  The post content is a list of the songs on the album presented in a scrollable box.

The end result is a beautiful website that is also functional and useful to anyone looking to hear and purchase beautiful music.
